Complete website design, online ordering integration, and local SEO for Mal Al Sham — "The Taste of Damascus" — an authentic Syrian restaurant at 388 E Main St, El Cajon with 1,500+ five-star reviews.
Mal Al Sham, founded in 2018 by the Abu Ali family who immigrated from Syria, had built a loyal local following with 1,500+ five-star reviews — but relied entirely on social media with no website. They needed an online presence that could showcase their 60+ menu items, tell their family story, and enable online ordering for delivery and pickup across San Diego County.
Located at 388 E Main St in El Cajon, Mal Al Sham — “The Taste of Damascus” — was founded in 2018 by Mr. Ahmed Abu Ali and his family, who immigrated from Syria in 2016. They brought generations-old recipes and built a devoted following with over 1,500 five-star reviews. But despite this loyal customer base, the restaurant relied entirely on social media and third-party listings. El Cajon has a vibrant and competitive food scene, particularly for Middle Eastern cuisine, and without a dedicated website Mal Al Sham was losing potential diners to restaurants that appeared first in search results.
Their 60+ menu items across 12 categories — from traditional Syrian kibbeh and mansaf to family platters for 10 — were not accessible online. Hours were inconsistent across platforms, and there was no way for customers to place orders directly. Delivery and pickup orders relied entirely on third-party apps with high commission fees. Food tourists visiting El Cajon and locals searching for nearby restaurants were finding competitors instead.
We designed a visually rich WordPress website with professional food photography, an integrated Clover online ordering system with full cart/checkout flow, and a comprehensive digital menu spanning 12 categories (breakfast, kibbeh, entrees, family combos, catering, and more). Local SEO targeted "Syrian food El Cajon", "Mediterranean restaurant San Diego" and 40+ neighborhood keywords. Schema markup, Google Maps integration, and multi-payment support (Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, all major cards) were implemented.
The website was designed with a deep crimson brand palette and elegant typography that mirrors the warmth of the dining experience. Professional food photography — hummus, falafel, kebab, shawarma, and a drone aerial of the storefront with its distinctive teal and pink outdoor patio — draws visitors in immediately. The design captures the Abu Ali family's Syrian heritage while feeling modern and inviting.
We built a fully integrated Clover online ordering system with a complete cart-and-checkout flow, supporting Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and all major credit cards. The comprehensive digital menu spans 12 categories with 60+ items — breakfast, manakeesh, appetizers, salads, kibbeh, entrees, family combos (for 3, 5, or 10 people), sandwiches, stews, mashawi, and catering platters — each with accurate dine-in and to-go pricing. This eliminated dependency on third-party delivery apps and their commission fees.
The local SEO strategy targets high-intent keywords like “Syrian food El Cajon,” “Mediterranean restaurant near me,” and “best shawarma East County.” The footer includes service area content covering 40+ San Diego County neighborhoods (Santee, La Mesa, and beyond). Schema markup with Restaurant type, geo-coordinates, and opening hours strengthens search presence. Google Maps integration at the exact location (32.795318, -116.957397) provides instant directions. The Google Business Profile was optimized with accurate hours, photos, and menu links — contributing to their 1,500+ five-star review count.
